Avana Wellness Center is now collaborating with Professional Psychological Services to offer psychological testing at our McLean location. Services are now provided onsite through this partnership. More detailed information is provided below.

Psychological Evaluations

Psychological testing is offered to children, adolescents, and adults to help with understanding your social, emotional, behavioral, and/or personality functioning. Testing can help clarify symptoms and diagnosis. The process entails interviews with the client, family members, and/or other necessary individuals, behavioral observations, administering appropriate tests, and a review of records. You will be provided with a comprehensive report with recommendations.

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Evaluations

ADHD evaluations are offered to children, adolescents, and adults. Symptoms of ADHD are generally categorized by inattentiveness (difficulty concentrating and focusing), hyperactivity and impulsive behavior, and executive functioning (e.g., attention, working memory, reasoning, planning, decision-making, and problem-solving). The purpose of an ADHD evaluation is to determine if symptoms are consistent with a diagnosis of ADHD or if they point to another condition or diagnosis, such as anxiety, depression, or other emotional/behavioral conditions. The process includes interviews, behavioral observations, administering appropriate tests to the individual and parent/informant/teachers, and a review of records. You will be provided with a comprehensive report with recommendations.

Cognitive Testing

Cognitive testing explains the strengths and weaknesses of an individual compared to their peers. Cognitive testing in children is essential for educational planning and assisting parents in structuring and understanding their child's learning style. Cognitive testing for adults can assess problem-solving abilities, learning skills, and critical thinking to determine strengths in work and college life. Full IQ tests are administered, and a report will be provided.

Substance Use/Abuse Evaluation

Substance Use/Abuse Evaluation is a comprehensive evaluation that assesses the symptoms present in the individual to determine whether these constitute an addictive disorder and/or co-occurring disorder. These evaluations are often court-ordered and/or recommended by attorneys or probation offices due to an alcohol or drug-related charge. This process involves interviewing the individual, a review of records, and standardized specific testing. You will be provided with a comprehensive report with recommendations.
